Another week of amateur radio has expired. Expired Ham, get it? 🙂
Welcome to another issue of Expired Ham, a weekly newsletter where I discuss the ways I participated in the amateur radio hobby this week.
Did anyone go to the Dayton Hamvention this year? I was reading some of the news online about new gear and such that had been announced this year and it seems pretty light. I’m sure there were more new things that were made known to the ham world that didn’t get much air time online–antennas, rig accessories, etc. Maybe I need to plan to attend the event next year…
Elecraft announced a new antenna system for their portable rigs. The Elecraft AX4 will be usable on the 40m to 10m bands when paired with a suitable ATU. Pricing has yet to be announced, though the Elecraft site is providing build and feature information as well as a pre-order sign up form for those interested.
My wife and I have been watching the weather forecast like hawks this week. Next weekend, we have our first camping trip of the year booked and it’s not looking favorable for a successful outing. We will likely be canceling, unfortunately, since neither of us prefer to camp in a downpour nor thunderstorms. It happened to us once and we said it would never happen again. The weather doesn’t look favorable for here at home next weekend either. I suppose the entire eastern part of the country is going to get some wet weather over the coming week.
I’m considering a change to these newsletter posts. Given the lack of material suitable for a “newsletter”, I may change the posting interval to monthly, instead of once a week. If you don’t see one in your inbox next week, then you’ll know why.
73s all and have a great upcoming week.
Matthew, K2MAS
