Expired Ham – Vol. 2 Iss. 16

Expired Ham

Another week of amateur radio has expired. Expired Ham, get it? 🙂

Welcome to another issue of Expired Ham, a weekly newsletter where I discuss the ways I participated in the amateur radio hobby this week.

It’s been nice enough outside to get the portable radios dusted off and get them outside, but instead, the wife and I got out the kayaks and spent some time paddling around at one of the local lakes.

I know most of the posts I’ve made recently are related to CW and that might not be of interest to everyone, so I am trying to sprinkle in some posts on other topics, namely building things related to amateur radio. I had a fun time with the Bug Box build and learned a bit about the limitations of my carpentry skills in the process. I have several Arduinos that need to be used for various projects. I’ve been scouring past issues of QST for DIY projects as well. Those will make for good blog post topics, I think.

I’m also planning to start doing some product reviews, of sorts. At first, I’m wanting to catalog all these Vibroplex bugs that I’ve purchased lately. Mostly to showcase the collection, but also to share some of my personal thoughts about using a bug as opposed to a set of paddles or a straight key. I also want to review the rigs I currently own, kits put together so that I can easily take a rig and its components out on POTA activations, books on amateur radio topics, etc. In a nutshell, I’m trying to find topics to write about other than these once-a-week Expired Ham posts.

Stay tuned for more.

Matthew, K2MAS
